About the photographer
I'm Jan van der Veen, born in Stockholm, Sweden in the early 70´s and since three years living in at Varmdo, 20 miles east of Stockholm.
The interest and fascination for natures complexity and simplicity was discovered at childhood when excursions with my father often meant early mornings with mists and elks, birdwatching and the longed-for thermos with hot chocolate.
That interest were 1999 combined with photography and is today somehow a necessary toxic as well as the coffe from the thermos with ants and mosquitos as accompaniment in the forest early mornings that still is my favourite-time of the day.
I'm mostly directed towards birds and mammals and use the natural light in my photography, never flash.
Using analogue Nikon equipment and as slow slidefilm as possible.
I'm try more and more to work in projects even though spontaneity is a key-word to keep healthy.
About my images
I hope you find my images interesting and varying as i try to make images with different character.
Light,composition, fore/background and perspective are components that together with animal behaviour provides me with essential requirements to create images with expression and soul.
